Understanding IESCO's Power Distribution & Load Shedding Policy

Unlike historical nationwide load shedding regimes, IESCO operates an AT&C (Aggregate Technical & Commercial) loss-based power management policy. Feeders with zero line losses and high recovery rates in Federal sectors (F-6, F-7, G-8, G-9, I-8) and prime urban zones enjoy continuous uninterrupted power supply.

Planned Maintenance

Feeder Shutdown Notices

IESCO routinely conducts grid maintenance, transformer upgrades, and line clearing work. Planned shutdowns are announced 24 to 48 hours in advance for specific sub-division feeders.

Unplanned Outages

Technical Faults & Tripping

Severe weather, monsoon rain, heavy winds, high-tension wire trips, or local transformer damage cause immediate localized power interruptions that require field crew repair.

How to Check & Report Load Shedding in Your Area

If your electricity goes out unexpectedly in Islamabad or Rawalpindi, follow these steps to verify whether it is a planned maintenance shutdown or a localized breakdown:

  1. Check Neighbor Connections: Verify if adjacent homes or street lights on your block also lack power (indicating a feeder trip or grid issue).
  2. Call IESCO Emergency (118): Provide your 14-digit reference number to check if a feeder shutdown ticket is open for your sub-division.
  3. SMS Registration (8118): Send an SMS with your 14-digit reference number and word "OUTAGE" to receive automated SMS dispatch updates.
  4. Escalate Unresolved Outages: For persistent line failures, view our Complaints & Helpline Guide for NEPRA regional cell escalation.
